Living Tobacco-Free On The Central Coast
Growing up, I was surrounded by smoke. One set of my parents smoked on a regular basis around me. They smoked in the car and in the backyard, but not in the house. However, I was constantly in the midst of smoke. I did not like it at all, but as a kid, what could I say? All I could do is grow up to stay away from cigarettes all together. Don’t get me wrong, I can empathize with those who smoke and have a hard time quitting. I’ve been told by my parents how hard it is to quit (one of whom does not smoke to this day).
Let’s talk a little about tobacco use. Did you know that tobacco is the only consumer product that kills when used as intended? It is the number one cause of preventable death today – killing 480,000 Americans every year! Tobacco use is a pediatric epidemic: 5.6 million children alive today will die prematurely from smoking unless we do something now. I am proud to be participating in this Tobacco-Free Kids campaign and spread the word about Living Tobacco-Free on the Central Coast.
There is a great new site where you can find retailers in your local areas where you can shop tobacco-free! This newly-launched site has great new resources, including a map where you can search your zip code and get a list of the tobacco-free retailers in the area right on the homepage. On the site, you can also thank your Tobacco-Free retailers, tell stores to go tobacco-free, and even post the “I shop tobacco free” badge on your blog (if you have one) and/or social pages. I love how easy it is to browse the site and find tobacco-free retailers where we live!
