Growing up, I was taught to always stay stocked up on canned foods.  Whether it’s soup, beans, or baking products, I always have a plentiful amount of canned foods in our cupboards.  When I go to the grocery store, I look for the yellow tags, indicating items on sale.  When certain canned goods go on sale, I like to stock up, especially when it comes to soups, canned meats and canned vegetables.  That can save big bucks!!!

While stocking up on canned goods and saving money is a good thing, building a cluttered “cantry” can be a bad thing.  That is kind of, who am I kidding, totally what happened in our “cantry.”  I mean, when I come home from shopping, I’m happy to have my groceries put away.  Organizing them is the last thing on my mind!

However, it was time to declutter and organize our “cantry,” so Frank and I got to work.  He built a shelf (thank you IKEA for great shelving units and prices) and then I started organizing the cans.  I organized the cans into sections, including soups, beans, vegetables, fruit, easy meals and baking products.  I was amazed at how organized the shelves looked!!

It seems that I had perfect timing with organizing our “cantry” as February is National Canned Food Month.  All month long, Cans Get You Cooking is celebrating on the Cooking Channel.  Throughout the month of February, be sure to tune in to Cans Make the Meal with Kelsey Nixon, a 30-minute special during which Kelsey Nixon takes viewers down the canned food aisle, shares fun canned food facts, and creates four delicious recipes inspired by her Cantry.  Cans Make the Meal with Kelsey Nixon will air all month long.  For air dates, be sure to visit CansGetYouCooking.com.

If you can’t tune in to the Cooking Channel, the segment and recipes featured in the special will be posted on http://bit.ly/1jqGAjs.  Also, be sure to follow Cans Get You Cooking on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and Tumblr for more information on products and recipes.

Evert once in a while I’ll sort my “cantry”. Like you, after grocery sopping, I tend to put the cans wherever. I love separating them though and helps to give me an idea of what to add to my grocery list when I’m low on something.

  2. Rosey says:

I like the cans to be organized too.Little man’s been helping me put groceries away though, so they’re not near as organized as I’d like. 😉

  3. Ashley M says:

We stay stocked up on our canned foods as well. You never know when a freak storm will hit or perhaps someone will love their job. It’s those times that you will lean on your stockpile.

  4. Jen Andrade says:

Great post, we don’t nearly have enough canned food and my husband is adamant we stock up for the earthquake whenever it may hit!

  5. Gosh I need to do this in my pantry as well. I have my cans all willy nilly in there right now!

  6. Anne says:

So organized! Just yesterday I had to empty half my pantry searching for a can of fire roasted tomatoes I knew I’d bought!

  7. Your pantry is one to be envied! So organized and neat!

  8. Terrific reminder that I really needed. We don’t have a cantry as we don’t have the cabinet space. We have a shelving unit in the corner of the kitchen. It holds a lot of stuff and inevitable gets disorganized quickly. Like it is now, I need to rearrange it.

What a difference organizing can be!. I love Kelsey too. Watched her on FNC in its entirely.

  10. I really need to organize our pantry better… I love having canned goods on hand for quick dinners and specific ingredients

  11. I need a good can cleaning session! I have everything in a pantry cabinet that I have to bend down and see, so often things get hidden.
