Boating Memories From This Summer
This summer, I had the opportunity to participate as a Discover Boating Ambassador. It gave me the opportunity to share some of my childhood memories, as well as safety tips I’ve learned while being an ambassador. As a mother, it is my top priority to ensure our children are having fun, but doing also being safe while boating. I remember going out on our family’s boat when we went fishing or just riding around for fun. There were rules in place so we could have fun and be safe at the same time. I have great memories of those times as I hope our children do as well.
This summer, Frank and I headed to Maui with my 3 boys for my sister’s wedding. While in Maui, we had the opportunity to go on a submarine ride. Yes – a real submarine! In order to get to the submarine, we had to take a boat out to deeper waters. I was a little nervous at first, but it was a great ride.
I loved the feeling of the wind and water on my face, not to mention the beautiful view we had from the boat! The boys sat in their seats and listened to the captain attentively. They were so excited to be in a boat and heading to a submarine. Before heading out on the water, Frank and I told the boys that they needed to sit still (i.e. no running around or rough housing on the boat) and needed to pay attention to the captain of the boat as he talked about the trip and instructed us on how to board the submarine. They did an awesome job and had a ton of fun!
If you are going out on any boating adventures, I highly recommend checking out Discover Boating, a nonprofit program supported by the U.S. recreational boating industry. Discover Boating encourages everyone to get out on the water and experience the fun of the boating lifestyle.
