Relationships, engagements, breakups, self-discovery.  These are all words that describe the movie, Lola Versus.  On September 11, 2012, Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment released Lola Versus on Blu-ray and DVD.  I really enjoyed watching Lola Versus and could identify with Lola and her search for self-identity and happiness.  This Blu-ray and DVD is available in stores and online.

Greta Gerwig sparkles in this offbeat romantic comedy about looking for answers – and finding yourself – in a complicated world. When 29-year-old Lola (Gerwig) is dumped by her fiancé Luke (Joel Kinnaman) just three weeks before the wedding, she embarks on an emotional, year-long adventure of self-discovery filled with love, loss, hilarity and heartache. Guided (and often misguided) y the well-meaning advice of her close friends and eccentric parents, Lola’s chaotic journey en route to the big 3-0 proves that a single tumultuous year can yield the lessons of a lifetime.

I really enjoyed watching Lola Versus.  There were many things about Lola that reminded me of myself, which made me want to keep watching it even more.  It starts out with Lola on the beach doing yoga.  She talks about her birthday and how her horoscope said that this birthday would bring about big changes in her life.  Suddenly she feels the water rush around her feet and surrounding her on the beach are several shoes.  She’s awakened from her dream by her boyfriend blowing a birthday paper horn near her ear, wishing her a happy birthday.  Life is good and Lola is happy!  At some point in the movie, her boyfriend pops the question and asks her to marry him.  She says yes excitedly.

Lola has a lot of fun planning her wedding, but her fiance doesn’t seem to have that same excitement.  He seems more overwhelmed by the event and planning.  Lola comes home from work one day and her fiance looks like he’s seen a ghost.  He tells her that he can’t go through with the wedding and you can just imagine how painful that was to hear.  After grieving the loss of her relationship and life plan, Lola goes on a search for happiness and self-identity.  Along the way, she finds new relationships – them most important one with herself.

I received a copy of “Lola Versus” on Blu-ray from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment to facilitate this review.  All opinions expressed in this post are 100% mine.

We have this on our coffee table, and I promised Ellie I would watch it with her on one of our free nights. i had no idea what it’s about, but at least now I have an idea. Not my typical choice, but I know it’s something Ellie would enjoy.
