This weekend, I was invited to check out the Grand Re-Opening of Orchard Supply Hardware in Pismo Beach, California. It’s been a long time since I’ve visited Orchard Supply Hardware and let me tell you, after walking through the store and checking out the changes that have been made, I will definitely be back!
For me, I would rather have Frank or my dad go to the Hardware Supply Store to buy items. For the longest time, all I had in my home was a single screwdriver. That’s right, no wrenches, no hammer, no tools at all! Up until recently, I didn’t even have pictures hanging on our walls at home because I didn’t know how to hang them up, nor did I have the tools to do so. A quick tour of Orchard Supply Hardware has given me the confidence I need to tackle projects on my own.
While touring the newly re-opened Orchard Hardware Store, I met Erica Ecker – the Manager of Visual Marketing & Creative Services. She showed me around the store and pointed out some of the changes that Orchard has made to make it a more comfortable shopping experience for women and men alike. Erica expressed, “It’s all about the customer experience. You should feel comfortable when you’re shopping.”
Erica gave me the rundown of some of the changes Orchard Supply Hardware has made to create a better shopping experience for the customer. She pointed out a new color-coding system that makes it easy to find items with signage throughout the store. If you’re looking for tools or hardware, you’ll find them in the RED sections. When searching for indoor projects such as electrical, plumbing, paint, or light bulbs, the Gold sections will have the products you need. And when the outdoors calls to you, the Green sections will have everything you need to beautify your yard and landscaping.
An additional change that had me excited was the lowering of the gondolas throughout the store. This makes me happy because I’m a height-challenged mama and I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen what I wanted on the shelf, but just couldn’t reach it! Now I can and I don’t have to ask for help.
Coming into the holidays, Orchard has expanded its seasonal sections to make one-stop shopping fun and easy. With Christmas just around the corner, you’ll find a vast array of items to complete your holiday experience. There are newly stocked products like Christmas trees and décor as well as your standard supplies, such as ladders, timers and extension cords. It makes me happy to know that I can rely on Orchard for our Christmas tree and decorating needs this year.
Earlier, I mentioned how overwhelming it was for me to shop in a Hardware store. In other big box retailers, I’ve experienced frustration when I didn’t know what I needed and there was nobody available to help me. At Orchard Supply Hardware, good customer service is a priority. When you walk through the door, a Sales floor leader is available to point you in the right direction and customer service associates are available in each section – ready to answer questions and help you with any of your projects.
Orchard Supply Hardware is updating stores and customer experiences throughout the country. The Grand Re-Openings are exciting events and members of the community are eager to participate. There are giveaways and prizes, as well as enthusiastic customer service reps everywhere you turn. In Pismo Beach, the store opened at 7:00 a.m. and the first 1,000 customers received OSH buckets with goodies, while the first 200 also received a $25 cash card.
My experience at the Grand Re-Opening has inspired me to take on more Do-It-Yourself projects around the house. I know exactly where we’re getting our Christmas tree this year and that garden project I’ve been talking about forever is just around the corner. A big thanks to Orchard Supply Hardware for giving me the confidence to walk into the hardware store and to know that I’ll walk out with everything I need to get any project done.
