An Interview with Katherine Sarafian – Producer of “Brave” #DisneyPixarEvent

In April 2012, I had the opportunity to attend the press event for Brave, La Luna, and Chimpanzee.  The event was filled with movie previews, Scottish traditional events, and interviews with members of the Brave team.  We had the opportunity to interview Katherine Sarafian, fellow mom and producer of the upcoming movie, Brave.  She was lots of fun to talk to and we really enjoyed speaking with her.

Katherine Sarafian was definitely an inspiration to me, as I move from stay-at-home mom to working mom.  During the production of Brave, Katherine was both married and had two children.  She is an inspiration to working moms everywhere!  Katherine has been with the Pixar team for 18 years and loves the collaborative environment.  Katherine said about animated films, “Our films are never finished, they’re just released.”

Katherine talked about the upcoming animated movie, Brave, and her experiences producing the film.  Katherine said, “The original title was Brave and then changed to The Bear and The Bow.  It was changed back to Brave.”  Katherine also talked about the importance of the main character of Brave - Merida.  She said, “Merida’s hair was a very important of who she was.  She was fiery, passionate, strong-willed, adventurous……Her red hair was majestic against the backdrop of the Scottish landscape.  Definitely crucial to the story.”

What I took away from our interview with Katherine Sarafian was that she really enjoys working with Pixar.  The team for Brave was more than just a team working on an animated film, they were a family.  As exciting as releasing the film is, it’s also bittersweet for the members of the team.  Once the film is released, members of the team go separate directions to start the process over for a new film.  And personal experiences almost ALWAYS play a part in the films that are made.

I am definitely excited for the release of Brave on June 22nd in theaters across the country!  Be sure to follow Brave on Facebook and conversations on Twitter – #DisneyPixarEvent.

Disney/Pixar provided me with an all-expenses paid trip to screen “Brave,” “Chimpanzee,” and “La Luna,” as well as visit the Walt Disney Family Museum. All opinions expressed in this post are 100% mine.
