Give to Others This Holiday Season – Oxfam America Unwrapped

Oxfam AmericaThe holidays are just around the corner and many of us are beginning to purchase gifts from our family and friends.  The Christmas Spirit is felt by many and it’s a time of year when many of us spend our time or money donating to those in need – whether it’s serving food at a soup kitchen, giving some change to the Santa ringing the bell outside the grocery store, or sending a gift to a friend where the proceeds benefit someone in need.  I had never heard of that last option before.  I’ve heard of donating money to March of Dimes and other institutions, but was interested when told about this idea.  Thanks to Mom Central, I was introduced to Oxfam America Unwrapped!

Oxfam America Unwrapped Introduces gifts you can send that benefits those who need it most.  You can spend $20 to buy a pair of school uniforms that are donated to a poor community or $50 for a goat that is sent to a struggling farmer to help provide fertilizer and food for his family.  When you purchase a gift from Oxfam America Unwrapped, your recipient gets a card with the image of your specific gift and the money goes toward providing lasting solutions to poverty, hunger, and injustice in over 100 countries.

I can tell you that someone sending me a gift with a donation to someone who needs it is a great thing.  I am not being paid to write this post, but will receive a credit for one dozen chicks from the Oxfam site, which will be gifted to a family member or friend this holiday season.  The gift will provide HIV/AIDS-affected households with a starter flock: a dozen chicks to produce eggs, generate income, and improve nutrition.  This is an awesome program and I encourage everyone to check it out!!!

What a great concept. When I was younger, I benefited from food banks as I was left as a single mom of two beautiful boys. Now, I give back.

I love this charity, and I blogged about it a few days ago… for only $12 you can help out a farmer with a pile of sh**… which I thought was hysterical!! This is my new charity for the season. Thank you for bringing it to the attention of your readers… you have a much wider fan bas than I do, so now many more people can help.
Happy Thanksgiving to your family ~~ may it be happy, healthy and most of all safe!!
