Men and Cooking (or the Lack Thereof)

My husband was reading a comment made by a college friend’s wife on Facebook last night.  She was talking about how she is the primary cook and her husband barbecues.  When she went out of town for a week, she loaded him up with tons of sausages and hot dogs to barbecue.

Before I met my husband, he would bake the most delicious breads (not with a breadmaker either, but the old fashioned way)!  He taught me how to make meatloaf and other dishes.  Granted, before I got married, I could make Top Ramen, Macaroni and Cheese, Cup Of Noodles, and Scrambled Eggs.  Other than that, I had no idea how to put a dish together.  Yeah, I could stir food in a pot, but I had no idea how to make a home cooked meal!  What, were we going to live off of Top Ramen and Instant Oatmeal for the rest of our lives? Heck no!  We got a Better Home and Garden Cookbook for our wedding and I started preparing recipes from there.

Wouldn’t you believe it?  As soon as I started to cook edible meals, he suddenly FORGOT?? how to cook anything.  Who knew a man would have such a difficult time reheating in the microwave?  LOL! He does do a mean barbecue though.  His thoughts on that are “You have MAN, MEAT, and FIRE.  What is there to think about?”

Thalt’s cute. I cook but don’t have a flare for it. My man loves to cook. He gets right into it. Yes, does most of the cooking, when he’s not working. When he works, I cook. Can’t wait till we retire….haha

Ha. That’s usually how it goes! Apparently my dad used to cook before he married my mum. Guess what!? My whole 20 years of life, I think I’ve seen him cook a half dozen times. Lol

That is the ONE thing that The Hubs does not do… oh yeah, and laundry. He is fabulous at everything else, he cleans the whole house, does the dishes, vacuums, does the outside work, etc. etc. etc. (sorry, I was overcome by Yul Brenner there for a moment)… But he was wonderful when I was in night school for nursing. He found these microwave meals of beef roasts with gravy and microwave mashed potatoes and he would make them for me after school, we were both working full-time then. I would call him as I was leaving school, and there would be a hot meal waitin for me when I would get home. He would even wait until I got home… 9:00pm 3 evenings a week, so that we could have dinner together. They were not the best tasting dinners in the world, but I have to say they were the most ROMANTIC I have ever eaten!
